Burna Boy, Tems, and Asake are the only Nigerian Afrobeats artists in the Coachella 2023 lineup. Many may wonder what is the Coachella. Coachella or Coachella Festival as it is also called is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California USA, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. The festival is also called Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
It was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999 and is organized by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Presents. The event features musical artists from many genres of music and culture including; hip-hop, indie, rock, pop, R&B, and electronic dance, as well as art installations and sculptures. Across the grounds, several stages continuously host live music.
When is Coachella 2023?
The 2023 Coachella Music and Arts Festivals will be taking place in the month of April. The Festival has three different sets and varieties of stages. The main headliners are Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, and Frank Ocean.
The Coachella Festival is also similar to the Afrobeats Festival or more contemporary term Afrochella, where varieties of afrobeats artists come to perform yearly. It is one of the best moments of the year. Fans and music lovers get to see their favorite artists perform live. Performing at the Coachella stage is a testament to where Afrobeats music is right now.
Burna Boy, Tems, and Asake are all of the Nigerian descent, but they are not the only afrobeats artist representing the genre. Ghana’s Black Sherif is also set to perform on Friday, April 14th, and 21st set. This is also the set Asake will perform. This set will be headlined by US Popstar, Justin Bieber.
Asake whose 2022 was superb for a newcomer, has promised to do more this year. And making it to Coachella’s lineup is already laudable.
Afrobeats Coachella 2023 Lineup
Burna Boy who in 2019 had issues with the font in which the organizers of the Coachella Festival printed his name has not had anything to say this time. Although, his name has also been printed in a similar font, a font he dimmed too small for an African Giant like himself. Burna Boy is set to perform in the Saturday, April 15th and 22nd set. Burna Boy monster summer hit “Last Last” should play loud come April and The Coachella Festival. Bad Bunny will be headlining this set.
Tems is another outstanding artist on the list of afrobeats artists to perform at the 2023 Coachella Music Festival. Having had an amazing 2022, she’s also set to take the Coachella stage come April. Tems is among the artists lined up for Sunday, April 16th and 23rd set. Frank Ocean is set to headline this set.
